Amazon laid off more than 30,000 workers — now it wants some of them back. Why ‘boomerang’ hiring is taking off

Getting laid off usually feels like the end of the relationship between a worker and their former employer. But at Amazon [NASDAQ: AMZN] some ex-employees are now getting an unexpected invitation to come back.

The tech giant and online retailer has reportedly been contacting eligible former workers, including some who were previously laid off, about open positions across the company, according to recruiter emails reviewed by Business Insider. Amazon spokesperson Haley Silva told Moneywise that bringing back former employees is already a longstanding part of the company’s recruiting strategy.
