U.S. workers overwhelmingly support worker-friendly policies related to artificial intelligence (AI) and view unions as workers’ most reliable protectors from the effects of AI, according to a new survey from the AFL-CIO, the largest union federation in the United States.
More than nine in 10 workers surveyed expressed support for artificial intelligence policies that unions could fight for, including 95% for requiring a human to be the final decision-maker on all issues affecting individual workers and their employment.
About 92% also support expanded protections against the harmful use of AI in the workplace and call for transparency and accountability when employers use AI.
Every worker protection surveyed in the survey received support from at least 75% of respondents, including 75% for expanding the ability of workers to form unions to protect their jobs from AI. The survey, conducted by David Binder Research, surveyed 1,588 participants from all over the world.
