The US State Department has ordered a global operation to draw attention to alleged widespread efforts by Chinese companies, including AI startup DeepSeek, to steal intellectual property from US artificial intelligence laboratories, according to a diplomatic cable viewed by Reuters.
The cable, dated Friday, was sent to diplomatic and consular missions around the world and instructs diplomatic staff to speak with their foreign counterparts about “concerns regarding the extraction and distillation of U.S. AI models” by adversaries.
