Oracle Corp (NYSE:ORCL) tries to strike a balance ambitious expansion plan with investor skepticism as the company builds out its AI future and reshapes its physical footprint.
The company is pushing to build Nashville into an important hub for its future, even as it struggles to attract enough workers.
The company is advertising more job openings in Nashville than any other U.S. city, with a heavy focus on cloud infrastructure jobs that are at the heart of its growth strategy, according to Bloomberg reported on Thursday.
Chairman Larry Ellison committed the company to creating 8,500 jobs in the city by 2031 as part of a 2021 tax incentive deal.
Don’t miss:
Despite this push, Oracle still only employs about 800 people in Nashville, according to Bloomberg.
To accommodate future growth, Oracle is planning a massive campus along the Cumberland River with more than 2 million square feet of office space, a new pedestrian bridge and a Nobu restaurant.
Oracle shares have fallen nearly 40% over the past year.
