OpenAI is getting into the media business by acquiring TBPN, a technology-focused talk show closely watched by Silicon Valley insiders, the hosts said Wednesday.
Co-hosts John Coogan and Jordi Hays broadcast TBPN live from Los Angeles for three hours every weekday, with guests including founders, venture capitalists and key figures in the tech world.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s head of strategy, said in an internal note to employees that the acquisition would help the company more authentically engage with the public at a pivotal moment for artificial intelligence.
“We are driving a truly major technological shift. And with the mission to bring AGI to the world comes the responsibility to create a space for real, constructive discussion about the changes AI is bringing about,” she wrote.
