Jill, the technical writer, says the AI tools she was supposed to use were Oracle’s internal chatbots (as opposed to ChatGPT or Claude), which “would lead to nonsense,” she says. “Our team was pretty frustrated every day that we were being told to use it, and it wasn’t saving any time and was just reducing productivity.”
Another employee, who worked for health technology company Cerner before its acquisition by Oracle in 2022, says her team was encouraged to use AI after a round of layoffs in September. But she says that while AI has helped her work, Oracle’s productivity expectations have increased even further, forcing her to work harder than ever before, leading to 60- to 80-hour weeks.
During this time, she was also given the task of training AI systems on her work. While she was afraid of the outcome of this training, she felt trapped. “We trained AI to replace us, but AI is the only way to handle our workload,” she says.
