Malaysia and Indonesia have become the first countries to block Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, after authorities said it was being abused to generate sexually explicit and non-consensual images.

At the time, the UK media regulator confirmed that it had opened an investigation into the platform to determine whether it had breached UK laws.

The moves reflect growing global concern about generative AI tools that can produce realistic images, sounds and text while existing protections fail to prevent their misuse.

The European Union, India and France have also expressed concerns about the platform.
