Google is developing options to enable AI opt-out in search

Google said it was developing new search controls to target websites to use its generative AI capabilities, as the US tech giant sought to address UK competition regulators’ concerns about its dominance in search services.

The company also suggested in a statement a “less intrusive” change in a user’s device settings to make it easier to change the default search engine, rather than displaying frequent pop-ups that would annoy users.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority classified Google as a company with “strategic market status” in October.
