Decision time for billions.

Google’s eponymous email platform has now confirmed two major changes — one’s expected but the other is a major surprise. And for different reasons, both mean it’s now decision time for more than 2 billion users of the world’s most popular email platform.
First to the most recent of those upgrades. “Today we’re bringing @Gmail into the Gemini era,” the company confirmed Thursday, “making it a personal, proactive inbox assistant to help you manage your life, not just your messages. Explore the new features launching today, many of which are made possible by Gemini 3.”
In short, AI upgrades that had been restricted to paid accounts will now be free. AI Overviews, Help Me Write and Suggested Replies are rolling out to all. Google says “as always, you’re in control, and can choose to turn these new @Gmail features…
