The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has received a spate of redundancy claims allegedly caused by applicants using AI.
The commission is on track to receive an unprecedented number of applications this fiscal year, increasing its workload by about 70 percent since 2023.
Their latest data shows 44,039 applications were submitted at the end of April, just shy of their 2024-25 record.
In a statement, FWC general manager Murray Furlong said the increase coincided with the number of people representing themselves, as well as budget and resource issues.
“In addition, the proliferation of generative AI support tools has had a significant impact on the work of the Commission,” he said.
Commission President Adam Hatcher has already sounded the alarm about the huge increase in unfair dismissal claims.
