Impax asset managementA London-based investment management company specializing in sustainable investing has published its first quarter 2026 investor letter for its Impax US Sustainable Economy Fund. The US Sustainable Economy portfolio underperformed the Russell 1000 benchmark in the first quarter of 2026, largely due to its lack of exposure to the emerging energy sector. Despite initial support from solid corporate earnings and falling bond yields, the market turned risk-off due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. That led to rising energy prices and inflation expectations, ending a three-quarter winning streak for the S&P 500 index. The company expects there will be a renewed focus on solutions such as renewable energy that improve energy security and efficiency, as well as investments in better grids, electricity storage and technologies to reduce energy intensity.
