Almost a quarter of Year 12 students at a boys’ school in Melbourne’s far east have been caught using AI to cheat on a key English exam.
Up to 50 boys at Mazenod College in Mulgrave have been caught after their oral assessments given two weeks ago raised suspicion among teachers and triggered a review of the assessments.
Catholic school principal Paul Shannon said the review found evidence of AI being used by students to assist with exams designed to assess students’ understanding of the subject and test their independent thinking.
He said the students had been addressed and “received the appropriate mark deduction for the exam in question”.
