China’s AI industry is alarmed about travel restrictions on top talent

Tokyo | China’s artificial intelligence industry has warned that travel restrictions on top researchers and executives will make it even harder to compete with American tech giants that are offering multimillion-dollar pay packages to the world’s top AI talent.

Chinese authorities have reportedly started requiring some leading AI researchers, founders and executives of private companies such as DeepSeek and Alibaba to obtain government approval before traveling abroad.
