Amazon shares fall on $200 billion AI spending plans

However, Amazon shares are tumbling in early trading as investors balk at the company’s plans for an artificial intelligence buying spree.

Amazon shares fell over 9%, a day after the company said it would spend $200 billion on artificial intelligence and robotics this year.

Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy sounded bullish last night, declaring:

“Given strong demand for our existing offerings and disruptive capabilities such as AI, chips, robotics and low-Earth orbit satellites, we expect to invest approximately $200 billion in capital expenditures at Amazon in 2026 and anticipate a strong long-term return on invested capital.”
