AI-powered fraud makes big debut in FBI cybercrime statistics

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has included crimes involving artificial intelligence (AI) for the first time in its annual online crime report, estimating losses of $893 million (AUD$1.42 billion) in 2025.




In 2025 Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), the FBI said it received over 22,000 reports related to AI.

The number of complaints and losses attributed to AI may actually be underestimated, the office said.
