AI engineer says Google wrongfully fired him after he protested about working for Israel

Google is facing a legal challenge from an AI engineer who claims he was unfairly fired after protesting the company’s work for the Israeli government. This is the latest sign of growing concern about the social and ethical implications of AI.

The engineer handed out flyers at Google DeepMind’s London offices that read “Google provides military AI to forces committing genocide” and asked colleagues: “Is your salary worth it?” He also emailed his colleagues about Google’s decision in 2025 to abandon its promise not to pursue weapons that harm people and surveillance that violates international norms, and urged them to unionize.

According to the lawsuit filed with the British employment tribunal, the worker claims that Google discriminated against his belief that no one should take part in war crimes and that he acted as a whistleblower by sending emails and leaflets to colleagues.
