For the past five years, Canva has hosted an annual conference for customers, journalists, and investors where the company unveils new features in what is consistently cited as the biggest product launch ever. Known as Canva Create, it is a highly dynamic event.
In 2022, co-founders and married couple Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht skipped across the stage, he in sparkling sneakers and she in a sparkly jacket. In 2024, employees performed a Hamilton-style rap. For this year’s version, held in April at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Canva laid down a thick layer of artificial intelligence. The highlight was a musical production featuring a mohawked punk headbanging to AI-generated lyrics, accompanied by an orchestra, a ballerina, line dancers and a seemingly endless amount of confetti.
