Nutanix launched a model context protocol (MCP) server for its Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) that is designed to support NCP users in tapping AI tools to automate multicloud operations.
The Nutanix MCP server is an open-source software tool that uses Nutanix’s Prism v4 API to link AI agents and developers with NCP. It acts as a secure passthrough between AI assistants like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Cursor to translate “plain-English requests” into “precise infrastructure API actions.”
The Nutanix Prism v4 API Gateway handles all execution, governance, and security controls. The vendor explained that the gateway is central to the offering’s secure nature, noting that “rather than risking unassisted changes to production environments, IT operators can safely use AI assistants to analyze system health, surface diagnostics, and accurately stage automation workflows while maintaining operator oversight through ‘human-in-the-loop’ capabilities.”
The MCP Server takes that insight to provide a “predictable environment” for an enterprise’s AI operations. That predictability comes from providing system blueprints to developers to help produce platform-ready scripts in their preferred coding languages and more easily configure security permissions through a single interface or build their own custom AI agents to automate and govern their Nutanix infrastructure.
