For most of us, grocery shopping follows a familiar pattern: pull out a list, get in the car, drive to a local store, park the car, and return about an hour later, probably after a friendly chat with the person at the checkout.

But Coles chief executive Leah Weckert foresees a time when tomorrow’s customers may not even know they have shopped at the retail giant. They instruct their agent to plan meals for the week, and then that agent (or another agent) jumps onto the Coles website, makes a bunch of purchases, and has them delivered. Who knows, maybe one of Elon Musk’s humanoid robots will put away the groceries – if you ask nicely.
