Google replaces Assistant with Gemini AI on Android Auto. The update was announced in May and has now started rolling out to users.
With Gemini on board, drivers can have natural conversations with the chatbot and ask it to complete some complex tasks. This allows the driver to reduce screen browsing and remain focused on the road.
To use the AI assistant in your car, you need to upgrade from Google Assistant to Gemini on your Android phone. The rollout will be phased in and is expected to be completed in 45 languages over the next few months.
Once the feature is available, Google says a tooltip will appear on your car’s display when you use the Gemini app on your phone. To then call the assistant, you can simply say “Hey Google,” press the microphone button on the infotainment screen, or long-press the voice control button on the steering wheel.
