Xbox Labs: Microsoft Targets Apple Silicon, WebGPU Ports [2026]

Microsoft formalized a new internal group inside its gaming division on October 13, 2026, called XBOX LABS. The announcement, sent to Team Xbox employees globally and later published on Xbox Wire, frames the group as a small team of “game makers, engineers and scientists” whose job is to turn emerging ideas into things players and developers can actually use. For a console maker that has spent a decade building its brand on compatibility promises, the timing and framing matter as much as the tech itself.
