OpenAI’s unexpected decision to shut down his Sora appthat allowed users to create video clips by describing them could open the door for other companies to make it big in AI videos. But it also highlights the many ways in which technology can simply be more trouble than it’s worth.
The AI giant and ChatGPT creator shut down Sora this week as part of a sweeping cost-cutting move ahead of a rumored IPO. In the six months it was available, the OpenAI app caused almost as many headaches as copyright-infringing SpongeBob clips for its dedicated audience.
