We are constantly hearing that the future of life, law and the world lies in artificial intelligence. The dusty books are being replaced by computer-generated summaries that offer a condensed version of learning and a less humanistic way of communicating. Law students fear that lower-level jobs will be taken over by machines and the job market will become even more difficult than it already is. The starvation for the clerkship and graduate program will worsen. This is what we are told.
But actually, the machines haven’t always come to “make our lives better” since Arnie’s been here Terminator or Will Smith was there Me, robot? Terminator was published in 1984 and Me, robot was published in 2004. 40 years have passed since then and we are still questioning our values as people.
