“When the AI bubble bursts, humans will finally have a chance to take back control,” reads the headline of the article by Rafael Behr (December 23). I think it’s more likely that when the AI bubble bursts, those responsible for the crisis, along with other wealthy economic actors, will be in politicians’ rooms telling them how they can “save” us all by somehow transferring wealth from average citizens to the already extremely wealthy. Just like during the 2008 financial crisis.
We must be ready with alternative plans. For example, the world’s governments could coordinate to buy controlling shares at reasonably low prices in any failing tech company that actually produces something useful, ensuring that those shares carry full voting power.
Governments, as majority shareholders, could then order these monopolies to split back into national companies that pay local tax rates in a single country for all their activities and…
