Three years after ChatGPT’s release, two broad camps have emerged: those who refuse to use it and those who use it daily.

A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found that one-third of U.S. adults say they have used ChatGPT. That includes 58% of U.S. adults under 30 — about twice as many as two years ago.

Experts say the emerging divide — between those who may already be heavily invested in AI and those who refuse to engage with it — makes it increasingly important to have an open conversation about how best to use it.
