Volkswagen Group is building a shared pipeline that turns real-world fleet driving into simulation and training material for automated driving. It aims to cut repeated physical test drives by up to 90% and AI regression test cycles by up to 85%. Porsche is leading the first implementation with Nvidia, Microsoft and Voxel51, and the companies announced it at Nvidia’s GTC Berlin.

Volkswagen brings its fleet, which generates data equal to 11,000 average drivers a day, along with its vehicle platform and requirements. Voxel51 provides the data layer for search, labelling, curation, training data selection and validation. Nvidia supplies Cosmos Data Factory and Omniverse NuRec to generate data and reconstruct drives, and Microsoft Azure runs the workloads within VW’s existing security and governance setup.

The first application is virtual validation, testing driving software releases on reconstructed real-world drives. Before a drive is reconstructed, Voxel51 runs around 80 checks on sensor integrity, timing and calibration, because a flawed scene would undermine every simulation built on it. A common data model then lets scenarios carry over across programmes and brands.

“You need to own the development and iteration loop, even if you don’t build every layer of the stack yourself,” said Brian Moore, Chief Executive of…
