Bull sharks aren’t seen in the Brisbane River every day, but it’s a known fact that they’re there.
Local man Quentin Arnstrong was on his usual morning river walk around Newstead in Brisbane’s inner north when a friend told him about a shark sighting.
“I walked there and took a few photos, but the strangest thing is that no one really stopped to look,” he said.
“I think because it blended into the rocks … (which) just makes you think about how quickly they can sneak up on you in murky water,” he said.

An avid diver, Mr Arnstrong said he often dives near Byron Bay in New South Wales with gray nurse sharks, leopard sharks and wobbegong sharks – which are calmer species.
He said this was the first time he had seen a bull shark up close.
“There’s a reason no one swims in the Brisbane River. I think every local knows it’s full of bull sharks.”
