Use of AI in government decisions

Recently a senior member of the civil service and I were chatting. It was a serious and thoughtful discussion. Each of us was given time to present our views and respectfully explore the differences in our thinking. We’ve had many of these generous conversations over time, which I really appreciate.

This particular chat was about artificial intelligence and its use in government decision-making. It was partly triggered by my last series Thinking about AIbut only partially. It also interrupted a discussion about Bruce Springsteen, so we must have thought it was important.
