UN Summit: From organic farms to AI chips in the global south

The 20th century “Green Revolution” in India is believed to have saved millions of lives by introducing new scientific techniques that increased yields and ensured food and livelihoods.

But the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides has brought enormous costs to both the environment and health, leading to a growing interest in organic farming, which combines the latest science with traditional techniques to produce nutritious food without harming the soil.

“It’s a win-win situation,” says Amit Singh, head of sustainability at Nature Bio Foods, pointing to a business model in which thousands of Indian farmers produce high-quality, sustainable food for consumers and are paid well for it.
