The dispute between Donald Trump and the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, could get out of control. At least it will be strange.
The US President today followed a long and angry tirade against Leo on social media by posting an AI-generated image of himself seemingly in the likeness of Jesus Christ.
Mr Trump is angry at the Pope, whom he has called “WEAK” for speaking out against the Iran war.
In the image, Mr. Trump is seen dressed in robes with glowing hands touching the forehead of a medical patient as if miraculously healing him.
A nurse and a soldier watch from the hospital bed. Several elements can be seen in the background: the Statue of Liberty with fireworks and fighter jets overhead; an American flag with a bald eagle flying in front of it; and a group of dead soldiers who have apparently become angels.
Mr. Trump posted it without comment.
It is reminiscent of the time when Mr Trump published an image, also AI-generated, in which he was seen dressed as the Pope.
