Thousands of employees at a  billion Australian company suddenly stop working

Thousands of employees at Australia’s most valuable technology company have walked off work for an entire week, swapping their usual duties for intensive work Artificial Intelligence (AI) Experiment.

During the optional week-long program, employees skipped meetings and paused all projects to “go deep into AI” and upskill themselves in the rapidly evolving technology.

It includes over 60 lectures from speakers from other tech giants Open AI, Anthropic and Google, workshops and “hackathons”.

Although it wasn’t a mandatory program, so many employees at Canva’s Sydney headquarters probably opted for it that the office ran out of desk space.

“We see this as an opportunity for people to step away from the noise and focus on what they wanted to achieve with AI but haven’t been able to crack it yet,” said Cameron Adams, co-founder and chief product officer of Canva.
