TThe unthinkable has happened. The USA is Europe’s enemy. The blatant, profound betrayal contained in the Trump administration’s national security strategy should put a stop to any further denial and dithering in European capitals. Cultivating “resistance to Europe’s current development in European countries” is now Washington’s stated policy.
But in this misfortune lies the gift of clarity. Europe will fight or it will perish. The good news is that Europe has strong cards.
The US bet on AI is now so gigantic that the pension of every MAGA voter is tied to the precarious survival of the bubble. AI investments are now competing with consumer spending as a major driver of American economic growth. They accounted for virtually all of the GDP growth (92%) in the first half of this year. Without them, US GDP grew by just 0.1%. Despite Donald Trump’s posturing, he is on shaky economic ground.
