At first glance, the news is shocking – the kind of story that would grace the front page of a tabloid newspaper.
The article claims Steven Mattaboni, victim of a shark attack in Western Australia, was on the phone with his wife shortly before the attack.
The story, published by a website called Luxury Blog and shared by the Voice of Aus Facebook page, details the alleged audio recording and claims it is “now being reviewed by investigators and has already left thousands of people in tears online after details of the call were shared on social media.”
The only problem? It’s not true. No one from WA Police has spoken to anyone from Luxury Blog or Voice of Aus and no phone call is circulating on social media.
