Allens’ lawyers now have around half a dozen AI tools at their disposal that they can use to speed up their legal work. However, the law firm has not only reduced the number of employees required, but also increased the number of fee earners to a record high.
The rise in non-partner fee earners at Allens, repeated across the majority of firms surveyed in the second edition of the Australian Financial Review Law Partnership Survey, suggests that the more artificial intelligence is used in a law firm, the more lawyers will be needed to vet the technology’s output.
