There are three main models for using legal AI in law firms. Here, illustrations based on the carriage metaphor show what is currently possible.
Model 1: The Big Law High Leverage Approach
With this approach, AI is “added” to the existing model of deploying a large number of young lawyers. While the partners provide expert input, their invoices represent only a fraction of the total provided by the “workhorses” that pull the law firm “wagon.”
Pros: This model allows adding AI without causing any disruption. The AI “jet engine” added to the car helps the company move quickly over difficult terrain – such as work that is either non-billable, has very little value, or perhaps needs to be done very quickly in the event of a customer emergency.
