The country’s largest companies are increasingly shifting their approach to artificial intelligence, fearing that the push to adopt automated tools as quickly as possible will drive up costs without delivering any real productivity gains.

Matt Comyn, chief executive of the Commonwealth Bank, said the country’s largest lender was increasingly viewing AI as a “scarce resource” and that the use of the technology was conversely making human judgment more valuable.
