The final version of HPE’s own version of Unix, HP-UX 11i v3, is no longer supported. It is the end of a line that began in 1982.

According to HPE HP-UX Support MatrixThe end of life of the final version was the last day of last year:

The product status is now “Mature software product support without maintenance engineering until at least December 31, 2028.”

HPE version numbers are complex, but the latest version of HP-UX we can find is HP-UX 11i v3 version 2505.11iv3, which was released on May 22, 2025for HPE Integrity servers, such as The Registry Put it a decade ago.“Integrity servers mean Superdomes running HP-UX with Intel’s weakened Itanium and NUMA processors.”

At least one website already misses it. Last week, OSnews reported “HP-UX reaches end of life today and I’m sad.” Some see this as a potential opportunity. For example, SUSE used the news to offer an escape routeexplaining “Why SUSE Linux is the natural heir”.
