The Husic ultimatum: Foreign AI giants must grant privileged access

Former Labor Minister Ed Husic says artificial intelligence giants should be forced to give Australian companies privileged access to their technology as a condition of approving foreign investment, and the government should use taxpayer money to boost local AI development.

Husic, who was in charge of Labor’s AI policy until he was ousted from the frontbench in a factional brawl last year, said that amid the “frenzy” in the global data center, the Albanian government must not lose focus on where the benefit lay for Australian industry and academia.
