This is the first agreement under the National AI Plan, designed to help strengthen our national AI capabilities and ensure responsible, innovative AI development.
The National AI Plan sets out the Government’s commitment to harnessing the opportunities of AI, spreading the benefits and keeping Australians safe.
One of the commitments under this plan is to enter into collaboration agreements with leading AI and technology companies to expand Australia’s AI capabilities.
These agreements will promote responsible AI development, attract investment and improve security. These are high-level, non-legally binding agreements that set expectations consistent with Australia’s national interests. They signal the government’s intention to work with industry leaders, build relationships and drive action under the plan.
The government is open to exploring similar agreements with other leading AI and technology companies.
