I will be on stage in May and this will be my final piece for The Oracle, which made choosing a final theme difficult. However, today, as an outgoing graduate of the philosophy program, I am determined to convince any of you who might not otherwise be interested: take a philosophy course at Hamline.

Before you start reacting in your head, let me assure you: I know. I know how the study of philosophy is portrayed in the popular media and discussed on the streets. Pretentious, condescending, and antiquated are probably some of the adjectives you’ve heard or even used yourself when describing the discipline and its participants.

If this is your current idea of ​​what a philosophy course at Hamline looks like, I know one thing for sure about you: you haven’t taken a philosophy course yet.

When I tell you what studying philosophy at Hamline consisted of, I can hardly believe how lucky I am. I have lectures from Dr. Samuel Imbo who can ask you a question you may have…
