Spotify on Thursday unveiled a new verification system designed to help listeners distinguish human musicians from AI-generated content, as people flood streaming platforms with a growing amount of synthetic tracks created with artificial intelligence.

The Swedish streaming giant announced that its “Verified by Spotify” badge – denoted by a green check mark – will appear on artist profiles and search results in the coming weeks, signaling that a profile has been verified and meets the platform’s standards of authenticity.

Profiles that primarily represent AI-generated music or AI-created people are not eligible for the badge, the company said in a blog post.

“In the age of AI, it’s more important than ever to be able to trust the authenticity of the music you hear,” Spotify said.

To receive verification, artists must demonstrate sustained listener engagement over time, adhere to Spotify’s platform rules, and show signs of real presence both on and off the platform.
