RISC-V is often presented as an alternative to ARM and x86. In the data center, however, the reality is still considerably more sober: an open instruction set alone does not make a viable server processor. That requires capable hardware, virtualization, firmware and, above all, a functioning software ecosystem. Chinese chip developer SpacemiT aims to address precisely this and unveiled its new V100 at the RISC-V Summit China on October 20, 2026. The processor combines 46 RISC-V cores with different designs, eight DDR5 memory channels and 52 PCIe 5.0 lanes. At the same time, SpacemiT announced three server platforms based on the processor for general-purpose computing, AI acceleration and storage applications. This explicitly positions the V100 for conventional data center workloads, rather than just development boards.
Inside the V100 is a heterogeneous…
