It’s been about four months since ByteDance handed over TikTok’s U.S. operations to a new joint venture, but there’s still not much information about what the company is actually doing to fulfill its stated mission of protecting user data and preventing unwanted manipulation of its recommendation algorithm.
Now Senator Ed Markey is looking for answers.
The Democratic Senator sent Letters On Friday, TikTok USDS, the joint venture that oversees the app’s U.S. business, and Oracle, its “trusted security partner,” called on both companies to be more transparent in implementing the deal.
“Given the limited information released by the Trump Administration and TikTok USDS, I have serious questions about whether the TikTok deal can effectively protect against algorithmic manipulation,” Markey wrote in letter to TikTok USDS.
