Seoul | Samsung Electronics’ largest union voted for a compensation agreement that would give chip workers an average bonus of about $340,000 ($475,000), averting a strike that threatened to hit global chip supplies.
The union said about 74 percent of its members voted in favor of the deal, which the organization reached after turbulent negotiations in recent weeks with the world’s largest memory chip maker. Samsung shares even rose 8 percent in Seoul.
