(Bloomberg) — Samsung Electronics Co. could hand out about 40 trillion won ($26.6 billion) to chip workers in a bonus this year after the company struck a last-minute agreement with unions to avert a strike.

Samsung employs 78,000 people in its semiconductor division. Employees in different departments receive different bonus levels, but workers receive an average of 513 million won, equivalent to $340,000, according to calculations by Bloomberg based on proposed terms and estimates for 2026 operating profit. Samsung employees earned an average of 158 million won in 2025, according to a company filing in March.
Other estimates, including from Yonhap News, suggested that employees of the booming storage division could face individual payouts of around 600 million won. Samsung does not disclose the exact number of employees in the various semiconductor divisions.
