Samsung Bixby is reportedly adopting different AI LLMs, such as Perplexity and DeepSeek, as part of its One UI 8.5 upgrade. Thanks to the integration of AI models, Galaxy’s in-house assistance is starting to feel useful again.
One UI 8.5 firmware points to Bixby adopting multiple AI LLMs, with Perplexity handling global info queries, and many advanced conversational and multimodal features are rumored to be powered by DeepSeek, especially in China.
The UI also gets a much-needed rethink
Summon Bixby, and it opens in a mini window, floating over whatever app you are using. No forced full-screen takeover, no broken flow.
You can keep chatting, copy responses, rate them, or jump straight to Perplexity for deeper reading. This is clearly designed for daily driver use, not demos.
Real integrations
Screenshots show hooks into Uber, Skyscanner, HERE Maps, and The Weather Channel. This is the kind of practical stuff Bixby always lacked. Less novelty, more “get things done.”

Bixby Live
Here’s Bixby Live, and this is where things get interesting, which looks very similar to Gemini Live. It also introduces selectable conversation styles like General Agent, Interview, Listening Ear, Storyteller, Positive Speaker, and even Tour Guide.
You can share your screen or camera feed, then switch modes like AI Solver, Translation, or General. For students, travelers, and multitaskers, this could actually matter.
