A Christmas banner will be removed from Redfern Station after observers raised concerns that the artwork was AI-generated.

The banner, erected between platforms 10 and 11 of the station, depicted an Australian Christmas scene with Santa Claus on the beach in board shorts and thongs, surrounded by a group of native animals.

However, upon closer inspection, several “animals” in the cartoon showed obvious signs of being created by AI.

One animal in the artwork appeared to be made from a koala’s head on the torso of a kangaroo, while the scene also featured a rodent with limbs disconnected from the body and kangaroos wearing bikini tops.

More than 3,000 people liked a post on Reddit’s r/sydney forum that described the banner as “AI bullshit.”

Subjects identified with the banner included a koala with a kangaroo body and a rodent with severed limbs.
