Police chief apologizes for AI error that helped decide on fan ban for Maccabi Tel Aviv

The West Midlands police chief has apologized to MPs for presenting them with an error in evidence in the decision to ban fans from Maccabi Tel Aviv, as the Home Secretary is set to address Parliament.

The armed forces’ leaders are under fire over the decision to ban supporters of the Israeli soccer team from attending a Europa League match against Aston Villa on November 6.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford wrote to the home affairs committee to apologize for the error after appearing twice to give evidence about the controversy.

In a letter to committee chairwoman Dame Karen Bradley, the senior police chief said the evidence presented to the committee by him and deputy chief constable Mike O’Hara that false findings about a West Ham v Maccabi Tel Aviv game were due to a Google search was false.
