Perplexity has reported a 5x increase in revenue, growing from $100 million to $500 million, as the company expands its AI offerings and positions itself in the competitive search market.

The growth comes as the company operates with a relatively small team, increasing its workforce size by 34% during the same period. The company also reported a twofold increase in revenue in 2026 while maintaining a lean structure.

Aravind Srinivas, Chief Executive Officer, Perplexity, taking it to X, said the company began as a small internal tool. He said it “started as a small business tool for ourselves” when the team consisted of four people with no revenue.

He added that the company’s recent product direction reflects a return to its early vision. The shift to its new system, called “Perplexity Computer,” is “actually a full circle,” he said, noting that founders are using the platform “to grow companies that matter to the economy and their communities.”

Srinivas said the company remains focused on serving small businesses and startups, adding that it is “rewarding to see it now powering small businesses and startups in big ways.” He also described the company’s current stage, saying “Perplexity is still a startup,” and that “everyone here works at a small business, and everything we build is for people who build.”
