Perplexity is significantly expanding its Mac app and making the previous “personal computer” approach available to all users in future. The new application goes far beyond classic AI chatbots and integrates deeply into macOS to perform tasks across local files, installed apps and web services. The combination of local system integration, cloud computing power and close integration with other Apple devices such as the iPhone is particularly interesting.

Perplexity Personal Computer turns the Mac into an AI agent
With the new Mac app, Perplexity is pursuing a much more ambitious approach than classic AI assistants and is thus responding to the new Gemini app for Apple computers. Instead of simply answering questions or generating texts, the software is designed to actively perform tasks on the computer. To do this, the application integrates directly into macOS and can work with local files, installed programs and internet services.
